Help For Parrots and All Hookbills

Your Birds well being is very important and to keep your pet bird healthy you should find an Avian Veterinarian. My Daughter took her African Grey Parrot to her Veterinarian, who cares for her Dogs and Cat, he is a great veterinarian, but not for her parrot.

Her parrot had a discharge from the nasal passages, and became very Quiet, the veterinarian did not take the African Grey parrot from his carrier and examined the parrot in the carrier. The parrot became very Ill and almost died.
We are not saying the veterinarian was wrong, but was not experienced with parrots and bird illnesses.

The African Grey parrot had a viral upper respiratory problem and if had been treated right away it would have been easier to control.

The parrot survived, after my Daughter's neighbor referred her to her Avian veterinarian, who put the parrot in the hospital with proper medication.

Birds have systems that are delicate, minor illness can become serious very quickly.

It is very Important to keep a tab on your pet Birds behavior, if he becomes quiet, and ruffles his feathers, shows signs of breathing heavy with his mouth open, even while sitting quietly on his perch, the bird most likely is ill. My Brothers Blue front Amazon started swaying back and forth on his perch, and this went on for three days, they went to the veterinarian, who checked the Parrot out thoroughly and could not diagnose what was happening with him.

The parrot was sent home and they told my Brother to keep a close eye on his condition, keep the Bird In a quiet area keep him warm.

After about five days the parrot appeared to be improving.

My Brothers Daughter came home from School, and put the Parrot in the Kitchen on his play stand which she did all the time while she prepared lunch for herself, this went on for her three week long visit.

When she left to go back to School the parrot became very ill.My brother had no clue why the parrot was so ill. He tried to retrace all the things he gave to the Bird and nothing stood out that was unusual.

My brothers veterinarian assistant asked if he cooked with Teflon coated pans while the parrot was on his play stand in the Kitchen. What my Brother was not aware of,is when his Daughter came home from school, she brought some of her cooking utensils home with her and one item was a Teflon coated fry pan. Even though she left, her Sister, who lives in the house used the pan every time she cooked.

My Brother and his Wife do not use Teflon coated cookware, and did not realize the Girls were cooking with the Teflon coated pans, which release fumes that are toxic to Birds. My brother and his Wife both work and were not aware of what was going on, and the Girls thought the pans were safe.

The Blue front Amazon parrot died, and my brother and his family were devastated. Please make sure your Pet Birds are safe and keep tabs on their behavior. This parrot was showing signs of illness, by swaying on his perch.
