Is Tap Water Dangerous For Showering?

We check into a hotel and we see a sign in the toilet warning us that the water is not safe for drinking. Apart from this, have we ever stopped to think about the water being dangerous for showering? In our homes, we take a shower as a routine and never think about the water that we use.

All the water that is pumped into our cities, towns, villages and dwellings is supplied to us after being treated. So we don't think it's dangerous to shower with it. Nonetheless, the water is treated with chlorine and some other chemicals to kill any residing bacteria. The chlorine content in the water can seriously damage our skin. It can also get absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin and cause serious health issues.

So yes, the tap water can be dangerous for showering. Its best to get the water tested regularly to see the chlorine content in it. Also check for other chemicals in the water. The laboratory will tell you if it's safe for showering or not. If it is unsafe, then the only remedy is for you to get a showerhead that will remove the chlorine content.

You can easily tell if the water is highly chlorinated, as you will be able to smell the chlorine in it. The second effect the water will have is that your skin will get dry and if you have sensitive skin, you might get a rash. In addition, you can feel the hair on your head gets dry and the scalp itches after taking a shower. When we take a shower our skin pores open and they absorb moisture. The moisture that is absorbed, finds its way to the blood stream.

If the harmful chemicals are absorbed daily, they will eventually cause a bad affect. This bad affect can surely be a fatal illness like cancer. The cause will be virtually impossible to trace. Who will suspect that the daily shower has caused such an illness? In fact, no one will believe this.

Research has shown that chlorine can be dangerous for health and city governments are looking at alternate ways of making water supplies safe. However, this will take time, and until it happens, you can only take your own precautions. Therefore, it is best to get the water coming into your home checked, and if the chlorine content is above safety levels then change the showerheads.

Of course, this does not imply that all water supplies are unsafe for showering. It's only those where the chlorine content is above the allowable safe level. There are a number of places where the water supply is quite safe for showering and you can also drink it straight from the tap. Therefore, there is no need to panic, as a simple test will tell you if the water is safe for usage.
