Using Teflon Paste on a Nitrous Solenoid

In order to get the nitrous solenoid in one's nitrous kit to fit properly a good sealant will be needed. Teflon paste can be used as a valuable sealant. It is not only protective and easy to handle but also much safer to use for the solenoid than Teflon tape.

Teflon paste is a commonly used non-toxic sealant for various different applications. It is known as a liquid form of Teflon that can resist corrosion and high temperatures while working to help with sealing the materials that will stick onto the sides of the solenoid to get the nitrous kit to work at its best level. The seal will stay on even during some of the toughest conditions including high heat conditions.

Using this material for a nitrous solenoid is easy to do. When the solenoid is tightened in a bench vise during the handling process it will need to have this paste applied onto the NPT pipe threads of the device. These include the threads of both the nitrous filter and the outlet fitting. After this is done fittings and filters used for the solenoid can be added and will stay onto the solenoid with ease.

A major benefit of Teflon paste is that is dries slowly. This is important because if a mistake happens during the adhesion process it can be corrected quickly. It will not easily stick to the fingers of the user either.

It will be important to use this material instead of Teflon tape on a solenoid. While Teflon tape can have the same properties as the paste does the tape can break off over time and get into the solenoid. When this occurs the engine can become damaged. With this in mind using paste will be a better option to use for the solenoid.

If you have ever wanted to press your own t-shirts with your favorite design or emblem, you will be happy to know it really is not all that difficult. As long as you have a decent heat press and follow directions carefully, you can be well on your way to creating your own t-shirts. Here are some tips on how to use a t-shirt heat press.

Before doing anything you are going to want to wash your t-shirts in cold water and dry them on high heat. Once your shirts are all ready, next you want to create a design to place on the shirt. Be creative and come up with something that will entice others.

As soon as you have your design all ready, the next step of how to use a t-shirt heat press is to use professional heat transfer paper to print the design on. It is vital you print with a color ink to get the full effects.

Now that you have your graphics all printed out, cut them carefully while trimming as close to the edges of the image as possible. To make things easier on you, use a background that has color so you can easily cut around the shape efficiently.

The next step is to set the press following the instruction for the particular type of material, transfer paper and machine that you have. In order to do this you will need to do three things; you will need to set the temperature, pressure and the time for each t-shirt. As soon as you have these set, you will be ready to start making t-shirts.

To actually get under way, place the center of an image on a t-shirt. Use some kind of alignment tool like a ruler to make sure it is completely center. Some other ways you can center your image on the shirt include folding the shirt in half lengthwise or using a t-square.

One of the last steps for how to use a t-shirt heat press is to place the image ink-side down on the t-shirt while placing them on top of the Teflon pad inside of the press. By placing the Teflon sheet on top of the shirt you will avoid having the rubber in the machine stick to the shirt. Finally, lock the press and follow the timing instructions for each heat press.

As soon as the necessary time is complete the press should unlock on its own. Follow the directions to see whether you need to have the shirt and image cool or if you should remove the transfer paper while hot. As soon as you do pull back the transfer paper, allow the shirt 24 hours to cool and dry. As long as you follow the directions carefully you will have no problem creating your own t-shirts.

My Polish Pottery

I did not know much about Polish pottery until we started to sell it as a retailer. My wife has had pieces for years, but I guess I never really paid attention to it. I know I'm a guy, and I should probably be looking at sports equipment or tools; but this pottery is really nice. The artistry and colors are beautiful and many of the pieces are great to display in your home, and make a beautiful collectible which can be passed down as an heirloom for generations! The pottery is lead and cadmium free, and safe to use in the microwave, oven, dishwasher and freezer. Best of all, it's affordable and functional! Cooking in it is excellent and with its nonstick surface its better than using a Teflon coated pan (ok, I now sound like I really know what I am talking about!).

This pottery has been around for centuries. In the 19th century the pottery became popular in Europe. Potters in Boleslawiec, Poland started using more colors, stamp ornaments (hand decorating the pottery with stamps) and a white background making the pottery much more vibrant. What makes this pottery very attractive and appealing are the bright colors used such as cobalt and peacock blues, browns, greens, yellows and reds.

Model Train Repair - Fix Derailment Issues

In the fascinating world of scale model railroading, nothing is more fundamental than keeping your trains on the tracks. Likewise, nothing is more frustrating in the development of your model train layouts than mysterious derailment issues. There are many things that can cause your trains to go off the tracks, so here are some tips for locating and solving the problem with some practical model train repair advice.

Tip #1: Check each rail joint. Rail joints are a common culprit in train derailments, so make sure they are correctly fitted and level. After the track is spiked down, use a fine file to smooth the top until you can slide your fingernail over it without catching.

Tip#2: Inspect Turnouts. Turnouts, or track switches, are one of most frequent causes of derailments and a common problem area in model train repair. If the track gauge is too tight, it pushes the flanges against the railheads and causes the wheels to raise up and derail. Too wide of a gauge can also cause a problem, causing the wheelset to climb up as well. Many turnouts are manufactured too wide, but this can be corrected by filling in the inside area of the guardrail until the gauge has a snug fit.

Tip #3: Weight the cars correctly. Most freight cars need some additional weight to function properly and stay on track. The NMRA has some recommended formulas to determine the optimum weight based on various car lengths (see further resource at the end of this article for the guidelines). Weight in the car should be put close to the bottom, secured and centered to maintain their position.

Tip #4: Check wheelsets. The wheelsets must be in the right gauge and be centered on each axle. If it is out of gauge, it can usually be corrected by twisting the wheel along the axle until it matches the gauge.

Tip #5: Do not overlubricate. Many modelers use too much lubrication, which can attract dirt to the equipment and cause derailments, or damage the paint and result in additional model train repairs. Use only the bare minimum of oil, and for couplers, use a powdered graphite Teflon which will not attract dirt.

Good Water Pressure All the Time

There are a number of things around the home that can really annoy you. One of these involves low water pressure. No one likes having a shower and discovering that the water has reduced to a mere dribble. And it is a waste of time standing waiting for the sink to fill slowly with water. Luckily, you can easily sort out these water pressure problems and ensure you have good water pressure in your home.

If it isn't the supply from the water authority, then it could be one of the pipes bringing the water from the main supply across your property to your house. If you suspect this, then get in a plumber to check it out. Unless you are certain of the job it is smarter to have a plumber examine these pipes. it may be that there is dripping or it could mean that the trees are getting too big and there roots are penetrating the water storage. It may be that the piping has aged and they have began to deteriorate. Either way, they will be either causing a blockage, or increasing the friction, and the result will be a lower water pressure. If it is the base of the trees then be sure a contractor is hired to eliminate the roots and prevent this problem in the future.

If you have always had low pressure, then it could be that you have thinner pipes. The tinier the piping the more friction and the less quick the water. If this is the case, then you may decide after talking to a plumber, to replace your pipes. This is not a cheap option, but may be the only one available to you. You'll find that if your pipes are only a ½ inch in diameter, you are more than likely to have lower pressure than if the pipes were ¾ inch or one inch in diameter. Talk to your plumber, figure out how much water you use daily, and decide on what is the best solution.

It may be a clog as the result of a substance similar to calcium. If this is the case, then have a word with the plumber when they come to clean or replace the pipe and discuss whether it be worth your while to purchase a water softener or other water purifier so that these chemicals aren't leaving deposits in your pipes, and at the same time you will improve the quality of your drinking water.

And, finally, if there is a problem with just one of your fixtures, such as your shower, then chances are there's a blockage in that particular fixture rather than in your pipes, in which case you will need to clean or replace the parts so that the water can freely run again.

7 Steps to Improve the Track Performance of Your Classic Scalextric Car

The older Scalextric cars from the 1970s and 1980s are great models but can seem slow and difficult to race by the standards set by modern Scalextric cars. Luckily these classic Scalextric cars can be upgraded to greatly enhance their track performance making them competitive on the track while not removing any of the enjoyment and skill required for the older Scalextric cars.

This article lists seven simple changes to greatly improve your classic Scalextric car. We have based this article on a 1970s Scalextric C.052 Ford Escort RS1600 which was selected as being typical of the Scalextric cars of the period. It was not prepared before the test apart from ensuring the motor operated as expected and the car was complete, electrically and mechanically with no obvious faults. The tyres were not cracked or split to any great degree and still had grip when run on classic Scalextric track. Our overall impression is that this car had been stood unused for a long period of time.

The results are based on a Scalextric Sport track with a test circuit specifically designed for this test. Built from the modern Sport Scalextric track the surface offers little mechanical grip with a smoother surface compared to the original classic Scalextric track. It incorporated tight inner corner hairpin sections, long straights, chicanes, corners that tightened, corners that opened out. Essentially all types of challenges.

Step 1: After conducting a visual inspection we measured the best lap times the car could achieve. The best lap time achieved was 18.72 seconds. Then the car was given an electrical service with new; copper pick up braids, pick up pins and wires from the pick up assembly to the motor. A retest gave a new lap time of 15.22 seconds which is an improvement of around 18%.

Step 2: Then, the car given a full lubrication service with all the motor and axle bearings given a small drop of oil each. Also, the gears were lightly coated with Teflon impregnated grease. A retest of the car gave a new best lap time of 13.77 seconds which is a further improvement of around 9.5%.

Step 3: After the lubrication service, slightly wider axles were fitted and a little weight added to the rear of the chassis. Again the car was tested of the track and this time gave a best lap time of 12.50 seconds which is an improvement of 9.2%.

Step 4: Next a set of high grip replacement SuperSlix tyres were fitted to the rear wheel hubs. A retest gave a new best lap time of 9.99 seconds which is a further 20.1%.

Step 5: With the improvement made so far the next step was to replace the original Johnson motor with a new Mabuchi motor. This more powerful and lighter motor slightly increased the car's lap time, probably due to problems in getting the power down to the track. The best lap time recorded was 10.49 seconds which is a degradation of 0.5%.

Step 6: In order to give the car a chance to use the power available from the Mabuchi motor a Neodymium magnet was added to the chassis of the Escort. The best lap time achieved was 9.12 seconds which was an improvement of 25.5%

Step 7: Our final change was to add MAX Grip tyres as some tyre slip was clearly evident even with the Neodymium magnet present. These replacement SuperSlix tyres are manufactured from a latex material and give outstanding track grip. The best lap achieved a time of 6.44 seconds which was a further improvement of 25.5%.

The overall improvement in lap times make this car competitive on the track while not removing any of the enjoyment and skill required. With these simple changes this car was almost a staggering 3 times faster than when purchased.
