HTC Hero - Reviewed

The HTC Hero is an excellent example of a smart phone. It features Android, the Google operating system, and a range of features that will suit the needs of most users.

The handset casing has a Teflon coating which helps to protect it from daily wear and tear. The touch screen is easy to use and works well in both landscape and portrait modes. HTC have also added their own interface on top of the Android operating system which makes it much more user-friendly. Applications can be easily added and some are pre-installed, such as Twitter.

There are built-in email and instant messaging functions, making it easier to keep in touch while on the go and GPS navigation applications can help to keep you on the go. The battery has a standby time of up to 750 hours, depending on the network connections chosen by the user.

The social networking applications are some of the best seen on smart phones. The HTC Hero can also integrate contacts from Gmail and Facebook into the phone's address book. The Hero also features a headphone jack to make the music functions of the phone more enjoyable and both music and video can be played in a number of formats. Memory function on the phone can be enhanced by use of a memory card, as storage is limited.

The phone could benefit from a faster processor and more memory, and the lack of a flash on the camera means that it only performs well in daylight. Despite these small concerns, the HTC Hero is a worthy competitor to the iPhone.
